Why I do what I do
I love teaching! More importantly, I love teaching students! You will never be just another face in the crowd or another name in the gradebook to me. You're important to me. What is happening in your life is important to me. I want to help you in every way I can both academically and personally. Please let me know how I can help you!
I love teaching with a distinctly Christian world-view! I don't think you should have to choose between a Christian education and an outstanding academic education! At Savannah Christian Preparatory School, we strive for both! I have the privilege of teaching the best and the brightest at SCPS. I don't take that privilege lightly and feel a great responsibility to both you and God to give you the best education possible to "develop the whole person to the glory of God." I will push you to reach your fullest potential, but will be there to help you every step of the way!
Whether God calls you to be an elementary school teacher or a physicist, I want you to have the math training you need to do whatever He leads you to do.
Professional Background
My mom was a teacher. I watched her grade papers and write lesson plans for countless hours on end and swore I'd never be a teacher! God has a great sense of humor, huh?! I know God has clearly called me to be a teacher. I realize with a math degree I could do a lot of other things, but I love what I do!
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education (6-12), and then spent my first year teaching as a missionary in San Jose', Costa Rica, Central America in the International Christian School. AMAZING! I returned to the States and got my Georgia Teaching Certification from Armstrong Atlantic State University. I've been teaching at Savannah Christian for more than 20 years! My husband also teaches at SCPS, and my son attends here. Our family is invested in and committed to SCPS!
Several years ago I began to see how technology could enhance and revolutionize my teaching. As I teach the last math courses many of our students see before heading off to college, I wanted my courses to be college-preparatory in presentation of material in addition to college-preparatory in material covered. So after 18 years of teaching, I went back and earned my Masters in Instructional Technology for the K-12 Classroom. I strive to utilize technology to enhance curriculum and to make it more relevant and interesting, but not to water down or replace the academic standards in any way.
Personal
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added unto you." ~ Matthew 6:33
I was privileged to grow up in a Christian home, and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was five. However, it wasn't until my teen years that I decided to really make Christ Lord of my life. I decided this Christianity thing was either worth nothing, or it was worth everything -- there could really be no in between. Christ loved me so much He died for me; all He asked in return was that I live for Him. Was that so much to ask?
I guess it is because those middle school and high school years were so pivotal for me in determining who I am today, that I have such a heart for students. My husband was a Student Pastor for 7 years and we both enjoy actively volunteering in the Student Ministry at our church, First Baptist Church of the Islands. Our lives are filled with students 24-7, and we love it that way!
I am so blessed to be married to the love of my life and the man I know God created just for me. He completes me. God has also blessed me with three precious children that are nothing short of miracles from God! They are truly the joy of my soul! All I can tell you is that my life is nothing but a testament to Matthew 6:33 (above). When you strive to do it God's way and seek to put Him first, He takes care of everything else and blesses you beyond anything you could ever imagine! I can never thank Him enough!
